| The exceptional competence of BORBÁS is demonstrated by the fact that not only did he realise that the species was endemic, but also that its nearest relative is Linum elegans, a flax species from Greece. The name of VINCE BORBÁS is commemorated in the Szénás Hills, as one of the most interesting dolomite hills of the area is called Borbás-ridge. |

| VINCE BORBÁS, the outstanding researcher of the flora of the surroundings of Buda, is often mentioned as "the most Hungarian" of all botanists. He deserved the title by describing a number of Pannonian endemic species. He presented the most brilliant of his discoveries, the dolomite flax (Linum dolomiticum) at the 13th January, 1897 session of the Hungarian Association of Natural Sciences. |
